Bruno Granholm, 1902-03
Style: Jugend

The State Railways built this Bruno Granholm-designed apartment building for their personnel in 1902-03. The bricks for the building were acquired from the Leppäkoski Brick Factory and their amount, two million pieces, equated to three years of the factory's production at the time. In 1935 balconies were fitted in, whose support structures employed railroad tracks. The outhouses were still in use up until 1942 before inside bathrooms were installed. In 1982-83, an extensive renovation was carried out, during which the number of apartments also increased. The outside appearance was not altered. The renovation was further continued in 1995, and the building was repainted in 2012. The name of the building ("Bicker Castle") is derived from a casual mention of a bricklayer working on the building that a house this size is likely to see much bickering in it.
