You know, that movie got a lot of flack when it came out and its reputation has not improved over time, largely due to not many people bothering to actually watch it at all and just going by hearsay. But really, while admittedly flawed and nowhere near one of Ridley Scott's best films, I actually quite enjoyed it, its biggest issues really stemming from it trying to cram the whole (or at least a sizeable chunk) of Christopher Columbus' life into a single movie, and subsequently turns more into a greatest hits of Columbus than a strong, concentrated story. Still, it's gorgeously shot, generally well acted, and the music (another point many say doesn't fit at all in context) is fantastic.
RIP Ennio Morricone
Master composer Ennio Morricone, the man behind over 500 film scores and numerous songs and other concert works, is dead at age 91 following a fall a week earlier. Easily one of my favourite composers of all time, he worked in pretty much all genres, left behind an indelible part in pop culture with his music, and never gave up on composing with pencil and paper despite the changing times. His music indelibly mixed together a melodious elegance with avant garde sensibilities and an experimentalist attitude. And while some of his music can come across as overtly weird, hard to approach, or even corny at times, there's no doubting that his great passion for music permeated much of his life, leaving behind an incredible body of work that no other composer working in film will likely ever surpass (at least in sheer scale). So I started a Tumblr blog. Mostly it was because I needed to be a signed in member to see some other blogs with age restrictions in place, but I figured since I had one now, might as well put it to some use. So, I decided to start doing reviews of my scale model cars. I may post some other stuff on it as well at some point, but for now I certainly have a lot of material to work with just covering this stuff. Probably a good thing to post this link somewhere online since it's not like anybody really even knows about this. ;P

Over the past few months I've been busy going through the various Italian Westerns, better known as "spaghetti Westerns," I've accumulated over the years from various sources, but never really sat down to actually watch aside from the ones I have on DVD. I honestly think the movie is a marvel, not many of these films are made anymore. Hard to come by practical effects nowadays
